The Rose Parade

When my family moved to Orangeville in 1957 when my dad was called as the pastor of the Orangeville Baptist Church, we didn’t have a television. Eventually we got a small black and white TV. But Dorothy said that wouldn't do justice to the Tournament of Roses Parade, so she invited us over on New Years Day to watch the Rose Parade in color! We sat with Glen and Dorothy and some of their family and thoroughly enjoyed watching the parade. Dorothy was so full of life and laughter and would make funny comments about the floats. As we all got older I used to come by the house and Barb would cut my hair. I so enjoyed being there.

Even many years later after we had been gone from Orangeville for over 40 years, Dorothy stayed in touch with cards for me when I had my bone marrow transplant. I would call her when I got a note and we laughed and laughed on the phone; Dorothy in Orangeville and me in Connecticut. Laughter is the best medicine and she was a "good doctor" in that respect! Her laugh was infectious, her smile made me smile. She was a beautiful woman inside and out.

I still think of her every New Years Day when I watch the parade and will continue to do so. She will be missed by me and people near and far.
