If I could have only stayed in closer contact with this wonderful man after we graduated high school and left Kinchloe AFB, I would be a much better man myself. I first met Ralph during my stint at KVCC in the early 70's. I later followed him up to Michigan Tech. Ralph was an intensely funny and caring person. A fun person to be around. In looking through the condolences posted here, I find it striking that many comments come from mutual aquaintences from 35 years ago. He surely made a strong and positive imprint on those he met. My condolences to Sharon and his daughters.

Dear Sharen and family, I was saddened to hear that Ralph lost his battle. I had to laugh though when I read about his "pointless son-in-laws". That sounds just like Ralph! Ralph was one of the first people to teach me that you can be a serious Christ follower without having a serious bone in your body. Your whole family has been a great example for our family, especially Erin, and we are especially grateful for that. By now, I'm sure Ralph has the angels rolling around on the streets of gold laughing!

My sincere condolences to all of Ralph's family and friends, of which he had many! I had known Ralph for over thirty years, having met him when I started my first professional job as an electronics technician at Allen TestProducts. Ralph had such a good humor about him and such a positive outlook on life, it made him a great joy to be around. My life was enriched just by knowing him over the years.

Dear Sharon & family, We are so sorry for the loss of your loved one, but praise the Lord, Ralph isn't lost. You know exactly where he is today. What a blessing and comfort that is. When Ralph closed his eyes in death, he opened them (in just a blink of time) looking into the loving eyes of his Lord and Saviour. That separation of death is so difficult for the loved ones left behind, but when we think of what Ralph is seeing and doing today in heaven we have to be smiling through our tears of missing him. Oh, what a man! When I attended Faith United Methodist Church (in the '80s), Ralph was my first adult Sunday School teacher. He made the Word come alive for me, and because of his sense of humor and entertaining style, I rarely missed a Sunday. In the '90s I had the opportunity to interact with his 3 daughters at DKHS and two of his "pointless" son-in-laws. When Jessica came to teach at her alma mater...and eventually take over the DKTAC, I got to see Ralph and Sharen at all the plays. One of my favorite memories was during Follies 2009. Jessica had allowed a number of garage bands to entertain the masses with their loud rock music...and I was able to snap a picture of Ralph and Sharen in the audience with their fingers pressed tightly to their ears. Oh, the things parents will endure for the love of their children! This past week, Jessica entertained the community again with a wonderful musical...under some stressful circumstances. I feel Ralph knew she didn't need one more distraction, and he waited until Sunday to slip into God's arms. Oh, what a man! He will be missed! ♥

Story shared: Childhood Memories

Ralph and Sharon were our neighbors growing up (well neighbors by Delton's definition - which means we lived on the same road) and after meeting them at dance class, Sharon started watching my sisters and I before and after school and during the summer breaks. I'm sure Ralph worked at the time, but I just remember him being around a lot. He was always such a wonderful man and so involved with his daughters. I have so many fond memories from time spent with the Robertson family. Some include collecting rocks in the lawn and Ralph paying us per rock or per bucket (can't remember which); going in the sauna in the winter and running in the snow; playing on the slip n' slide in the front yard. Thank you Ralph for helping to create such fond childhood memories for me and my sisters!

Though I haven’t been in contact for years, every time I visit Houghton I think of my first year up there, and the warm dinners in your Daniel Heights apartment, that seemed so civilized compared to our student slum rental. There is no way to think about Ralph and not smile. Even now, I'm smiling with tears streaming down my face. I am so sorry for your loss. Ralph was one-of-a-kind. What a great loss to friends and family and to the world! I remember Ralph as one of my first customers I ever called on when he was with Allen Test Products 30+ yrs ago.
